Alcott Global is currently working with a fast-growing ecommerce leader focused on high-end fashion to search for their Head of APAC Logistics Operations eCommerce to be based in either Shenzhen or Hong Kong.
The role will directly report to the VP of Global Logistics
Our client utilizes a M2C (manufacturer to customer) supply chain that sends single parcels by air from the factory floor directly to the customers’ doorstep. This role would be responsible for organizing first mile shipments from the APAC region to their consolidators and then ensuring uplift on various air and sea modes (primarily air).
This is a critical role, instrumental to the Company’s success, as they continue to scale their operations with direct sourcing from manufacturers; fulfill and ship millions of orders to the US from different CN/APAC locations as well as a consolidation center in HK in less than 24 hours with air cargo or a few days of ocean cargo transit. This leader is required to work cross-functionally with 3rd party carriers, warehouse and freight operators, and operators throughout the Company to build and support a winning logistics operations playbook to rapidly enable better efficiency, profitability, and customer experience.
The Head of APAC Logistics Operations eCommerce will be responsible for all first mile transit and inventory stock-in, order fulfillment/shipping, international freight operations including developing a holistic strategy and managing standardized SOPs for timely and reliable inventory availability and order pick-pack-ship into major airports in the US. The ideal candidate is expected to build and manage the respective business operations through co-design, development, and implementation of systems, processes with global 3PLs, carriers, freight forwarders/agents, airlines, and customs brokers. candidate is expected to provide leadership that will invoke a culture of quality and continuous improvement throughout all partner and supplier owned operations across the globe.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter, problem-solver, a builder, and an operator at heart, and successful in combining technology, data and other insights into best-in-class core logistics and international freight operations. The candidate is energized by solving complex business problems, often through influence over the suppliers, global 3PLs, carriers, freight brokers and IATA agents rather than direct management control. The candidate is expected to make high-judgment operational decisions at a rapid pace - sometimes with limited data sets in hand. Moreover, the ideal candidate is effective in an environment where customer experience comes first, and strategy, innovation and decision-making are intentionally distributed, candor, speed and data are highly valued and colleagues at all levels hold each other to unusually high standards on behalf of the company’s customers.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee strategy and operational responsibilities including review and approval of SOPs and changes into first mile inventory transfer from CN/HK regional suppliers, receipt/storage, pick/pack/ship and freight operations procedures and processes.
- Manage supplier relationships, quality issues, inventories, daily 3PL operated fulfillment and dispatch freight cycle times, and costs as per agreed SLAs.
- Manage advanced booking with freight brokers, air lines or ocean carriers, daily linehaul to origin airports and hand over to ground staff at international airports.
- Ensure zero package mis/short pick and shipment loss during international transit and handover to US airport ground staff.
- Establish control structures to operate, audit and remediate shortcomings to consistently meet >98% same day order fulfillment.
- Establish and enforce redundant or fallback models in freight booking and transfer services to achieve utmost reliability in end-to-end freight transfer (uplift-retrieval) in <24 hr.
- Collaborate with IT and other logistics operations functions to automate freight events data collection and build a system for inventory receipt, fulfillment, and freight operations.
- Stay current on market conditions for HK/CN based logistics and global freight trends and communicate market updates across the organization.
- Report on daily progress and status of all operational metrics to leadership and operating teams
- Establish an organization structure by assigning responsibilities, delegating authority, recruiting, selecting, training employees globally, and developing a leadership bench.
- Develop and implement operations financial strategies, including budgets and cost controls.
- Follow country and partner specific contractual and legal policies as directed.
Job Requirements
- 10+ years of experience and demonstrated success in CN/HK parcel fulfillment and US inbound cross border logistics, specifically in freight booking and transfer management.
- Management experience in D2C fulfillment, 3PL operations and freight management
- Deep understanding of international freight forwarder, IATA and air/ocean cargo service ecosystem and providers
- Working in a fast-paced, start-up environment – with a focus on operational efficiency
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to influence others without formal authority.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated creativity and ingenuity in developing successful strategies for business growth.
- Strong oral and written communication in English is a must and bilingual in English and Mandarin/Cantonese is a strong plus.
- Experience hiring and leading diverse teams across different parts of CN/HK
