Lead global sea freight procurement to develop the sourcing strategies and supplier relationships that will enable our client to realise its growth aspirations.
Working with global, regional and country stakeholders you will develop ocean products and senior supplier relationships that will enable the company to execute ocean strategies, grow market share and maximise profit.
This role is responsible for global ocean freight procurement strategy development encompassing ~200,000+ TEU and ~$75M annual freight spend.
The role is responsible for developing a global network that delivers differentiation through:-
- Unit cost
- Multi-tier engagement
Key focus areas include global procurement of ocean freight & capacity, trade lane
and ocean product development, spot pricing, solutions enabling business development, supplier relationship management and competitive tender responses as well as lowest cost solutions for the our client’s group of companies.
(Ocean products includes FCL, LCL & ocean-related transportation services) (Global includes Oceania, Asia, Middle East, Europe, USA, Africa)
The following will outline the day-to-day functions and the team leadership responsibilities
Development and enhancement of product strategies and policies
Develop, execute and maintain a Core Carrier Program in alignment with Global Logistics team
Implement and enhance ocean products
Ensure compliance with corporate policies and government regulatory requirements
Assist in the development of ocean product pricing policy
Publishing ‘product driven’ pricing guidelines for Sales
Provide solution design and pricing inputs for RFQ responses
Procurement of all ocean-related services
Work with Regional and Country Managers to manage ocean contract negotiations
Cultivate & maintain carrier relationships at senior levels
Procure pricing and service requirements in line with customer’s demands to meet
service level and customer’s expectations.
Communicate & collaborate closely with Global Forwarding regional & country
teams to deliver market-leading price & service options for customers
Manage relationships with LCL co-loaders as well as price & service negotiations for
all LCL services
Manage external vendors of pricing tools (tariff publication, contract management,
Implement supplier relationship management with structured quarterly business
Manage product yield and profitability
Work with Regional and Country Managers to measure and drive improved yield and profitability across the ocean product
Assist in the development and implementation of tools and KPI’s to improve yield management and productivity
Maintain and improve customer service experience
Oversee carrier performance in conjunction with Country Management
Address supplier’s underperformance with clearly defined corrective action plans
Assist in the development and implementation of tools and KPI’s for customer
service quality management
Capacity management & planning
Leverage global volumes and carrier relationships to ensure sufficient capacity throughout the year through the coordination with Global Logistics & Forwarding and Operational Excellence teams.
Implementation of customer-specific allocations, in conjunction with internal stakeholders, to ensure space and equipment availability in response to business demands
Sales & New Business Development
Assist in the closing of new ocean business opportunities together with Sales
Participate in quarterly business reviews with top customers
Provide regular market insight & suggest innovative new solutions to customers
Identify Ocean Freight growth opportunities – new customers, new markets
Create tools to help promote ocean products
• Define corrective actions with the sales organization to reach agreed targets and carrier commitments
Provide leadership in seafreight space to a small existing, experienced team.
Grow and develop a global seafreight product team in line with business growth &
development in various regions.
At least 10 years working experience in ocean freight gained in the shipping/freight forwarding sector with a focus on strategic procurement
Expertise in Global freight forwarding and strong industry networks with key decision-makers
Proven experience in leading and building functional teams
Experience gained working in multinational shipping logistics & forwarding environment
